Day Ten: Just Another Day in Hollywood

Bonus Question: What musical has a song titled “Just Another Day in Hollywood”???

What is up to the loyal followers who are still reading this blog! There has been a dip in viewership over the last day or two, so we thank you for your loyalty to our brand.

As you know, yesterday was a ridiculously long day in Disney so we all took the opportunity to sleep in today. However, when we finally woke up, we knew we just couldn’t let the day go to waste. SO, like ANY NORMAL PERSON WHO JUST SPENT 15 HOURS ON THEIR FEET, we decided to hike the Hollywood Sign.

For those of you who don’t know, there are a lot of trails in Griffith Park (where the sign is located) that can take you to various points of the Hollywood Sign. We decided we wanted to do the big kid hike that takes you alllllllll the way up and behind the sign. All 6 miles of it. Up a mountain.

So after filling our stomachs with some good old fashioned chipotle, Joey and I began our mission. At first, we were a little hesitant as we saw signs stating that there is a high danger of fire, and things like this:

But nevertheless, we hiked on. The first stop we made was a little added bonus! Apparently right outside of the Hollywood Trail is the Bronson Cave Trail which leads you to none other than… THE BATCAVE. (Specifically the 1960’s Batcave). These shots are for my sister, who is obsessed with this Batman even though she was born in 1996.

Once we were done here, we BEGAN THE TREK UP. I started my Fitbit to track our exercise for the day, and we were off. Here’s a brief overview of the first half: I talked a lot, Joey didn’t because he was “conserving his oxygen”, we cringed whenever we saw someone walking the trail in FLIP FLOPS, we cried every time we came around a corner and saw that there was still so much more to go, the usual. Here are some photos of the amazing view though:

And after a little over an hour of hiking, we REACHED THE TOP. WOO HOO. GO US. WE MADE IT UP ALL 1,098 FEET OF ELEVATION. SOME VICTORY SHOTS:

When we started to descend, I forces Joey to walk an extra mile to a different look out point so we could actually get some pictures in front of the sign.

And before we knew it, we were back at the bottom! 7 miles later! And 160 flights later!!! Here are the actual stats and route from the day to give you some more context:

Because we were in the area, we decided to drive up to Griffith Observatory (there was an option to hike but we were already deceased so another 4 miles would not be possible). We were pretty tired after hiking, but I’m SO GLAD we made this trip. The observatory was awesome, and we got to see another great LA landmark!

Following that, we headed to see some of Joey’s family who live in the LA area. It was great to connect with them again after the wedding, and they even fed us!! What a lovely group of people!! Even though we were smelly and gross, they still accepted us into their home! They also used their aloe vera plant to preemptively treat our sunburn (this was also our first time seeing aloe come straight from the plant- I feel like I’m seeing the world through different eyes)

We then ended the evening with a lovely dinner back with Matt and Sara. We even got the chance to hang out with our good old buddy, Shamrock.

It was another long day, but such a great one!! Expecting another morning of sleeping in tomorrow and getting ready before we take off again BACK TO NEW JERSEY!
